Primary sucession takes place in an area which was originally bare. Such places are surface of a bare rock ,newly cooled lava ,a fresh pond or a newly built water resservoir or dam .The process of plant succession starting in such a bare area is called a perisere.
Secondary succession takes place in a newly created bare area, which earlier had vegetation and animals . Forest fires and felling of trees are major causes for creating such bare areas. These zones have a fertilite soil therefore the rate of secondary succesion also called subsere is faster than rate of perisere.
