Define decomposition and descibe the process and products of decomposition.

Decomposition is largely an aerobic process ,i.e,it required oxygen
The factors affecting decomposing are :
(i) The chemical composition of detritus and
(ii) If the detritus is rich in lignin and chitin ,decomposition is slow and it is faster if detritus is rich in nitrogen and water soluble susbtances.
