• It is a method to improve the herds.
• The steps in the method are as follows:
(i) A cow is administered hormones (like FSH)to induce follicular maturation and super ovulation, i.e.production of called 6-8 ova in one cycle.
(ii) The cow is mated with the selected bull or artificially inseminated.
(iii) The fertilised eggs at 8-32-celled stages are recovered and transferred to surrogate mothers.
• This technology has been used for cattle,rabbits, mares, etc.
• High milk-yielding breeds of females and high quality meat-yielding bulls have been bred successfully to increase the herd size in a short time.
