Explain the use of microbes in production of any five industrial products.

Explanation

(a) Yeast is used in production of fermented beverages like wine, beer, whisky, brandy etc.
(b) Penicillium notatum is used in the production of antibiotic penicillin. (c) Acetobacter aceti is used in production of acetic acid. Similarly Lactobacillus yields lactic acid and Clostridium butylium is used in production of butyric acid.
(d) Microbes are used in production of enzymes. eg : Lipases are used in laundry. Pectinases are used to clarify the bottled fruit juices.
(e) Monascus purpureus (a fungus) produces stativis which are used as blood cholesterol lowering agents.
