There are many reasons why we should conserve biodiversity.
(a) For narrowly utilitarian benefits of economic importance likie 
(i) Food (cereals, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk and milk products, (meat), firewood, fiber, timber etc.
(ii) Industrial products like tannins, lubricants, dyes, resins, perfumes etc.
(iii) Products of medicinal importance.
(b) Broadly utilitarian benefits like oxygen, pollination of crop plants and aesthetic benefits.
(c) Ethical reasons : Every species has an intrinsic value whether it is of any economic value to us or not. Thus it is our moral duty to care for their wellbeing and pass on our biological richness to future generations.
