Define the following terms giving an example of each:
(i) Associated colloids (ii) Lyophilic sol
(iii) Adsorption

(i) Associated Colloids-There are certain colloids substances which at low concentrations behave as normal electrolyte, but at higher concentrations exhibit colloidal behaviour due to the formation of aggregates. Such colloids are known as associated colloids e.g. soaps and detergents.
(ii) Lyophilic Sol. Substances which when mixed with a suitable liquid as the disperson medium directly form the colloidal sol are called lyophilic sol. They are reversible in nature and they are quite stable.
(iii) Adsorption: The accumulation of molecular species at the surface rather than in the bulk of a solid or liquid is known as adorption.
