Case (i) In the direction of force acting on the block is perpendicular to the displacement. Therefore, work done force on the block will be zero.
Case (ii) In this case, the direction of force acting on the block is in the direction of force acting on the block is in the direction of displacement. Therefore, work done by force on the block will be positive.
Case (iii) In this case, the direction of force acting on the block is opposite to the direction of displacement. Therefore, work done by force on the block will be negative.

Write an expression for the work done when a force is acting on an object in the direction of its displacement.

A force of 7 N acts on an object the displacement is say 8 m in the direction of the force, what is the work done in this case?

A body is travelling in a straight line path with a velocity given by v = ax where 'a' is a constant such that a = 5 units. What will be the work done by the force acting during its displacement from x = 0 to x = 2m ?

Two particles of mass m each are tied at the ends of a light string of length 2a. The whole system is kept on a frictionless horizontal surface with the string held tight so that each mass is at a distance 'a' from the center P (as shown in figure). Now, the mid-point of the string is pulled vertically upwards with a small but constant force F. As a result, the particles move towards each other on the surface. The magnitude of acceleration, when the separation between them becomes 2x, is :

The sign of work done by a force on a body is important to understand. State carefully if the following quantities are positive or negative : Work done by the resistive force of air on a vibrating pendulum in bringing it to rest.

The relationship between the force Fand position x of a body is as shown in figure. The work done in displacing the body from x = 1 m to x = 5 m will be
