Why should curd and sour substances not be kept in brass and copper vessels ?

Curd and sour substance are acidic by nature. Eg: Curd contains lactic acid when these substance are kept in metal container like brass and copper, metal reacts with acid and liberate hydrogen gas and other harmful substance, which may spoil these substances.
