How can ethanol and ethanoic acid be differentiated on the basis of their physical and chemical properties?

Ethanol is a liquid at room temprature with a pleasant smell. Ethanoic acid has a melting point of `17^(@)` .Since it is below the room temprature so it freezes during winter morever,ethanoic acid has a smell like vineger.
Ethanol does not react with metal carbonated while,ethanoic acid reacts with metal carbonates to form salt,water and carbondioxide.
for ex,
`2CH_(3)COOH+Na_(2)CO_(3)toCH_(3)COONA+H_(2)O`
Ethanal does not react with NaOH while ethanouc acid reacts with NaOH to form sodium ethanoate and water .
for ex:
`CH_(3)COOH+NaOHtoCH_(3)COONA+H_(2)Oto`
Ethanol is oxidize to give ethanoic acid in presence of acidified `KMNO_(4)` while no reaction take place with ethanoic acid in presence of acidified `KN NO_(4)`
