Methane reacts with chlorine in the presence of sunlight to form chloromethane and hydrogen chloride.`CH_(4)+CI_(2)rarrCH_(3)CI+HCL` with the excess of chlorine atoms. This from considered as substitution reaction becouse hydrogen of methane is substituted by chlorine.
