Why does the skin of your finger shrink when you wash clothes for a long time?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

We wash clothes with soap or detergent. The solution formed is hypertonic compared to concentration of our skin cells. Continuous washing of clothes with hands causes exosmosis in the skin cells resulting in flow of water from skin cells to outside. This results in shrinkage of skin over the fingers.
