Why is endcytosis found is animals only?

Endocytosis is the process by which animals engulf food and other substances from external medium by plasma membrane. This is only possible in animals where plasma membrane is in direct contact with external medium. Plant cells have rigid cell well as the outermost covering. Their plasma membrane, therefore cannot perform endocytosis.
