Forests influence the quality of our air, soil and water resources in the following ways :
(1) Plants maintain the `CO_(2)" and "O_(2)` balance in the atmosphere.
(2) Roots of plants bind the soil and do not allow erosion of soil by fast winds or fast moving water. In this way, they help in maintaining the fertility of the soil. Many bacteria present in root nodules (e.g., Rhizobium bacteria in root nodules of leguminous plants ) replenish nitrogen to the soil.
(3) By preventing soil erosion, forsts maintain the quality of water-resources as well as there would be less silting.
