Check the following sets of numbers , whether they are in propotion.
(i) 2,3,6,9 (ii) ` 2/3,3/4,5/6,3/5`

The correct Answer is:
(i) In proportion (ii) Not in proportion
(i) 2,3,6,9
` 2 xx 9 = 18 `
`3 xx 6 = 18`
Product of extremes = Product of means
Hence, 2,3,6 and 9 are in proportion.
(ii) `2/3 , 3/4 , 5/6 , 3/5 `
Product of extermes ` = 2/3 xx 3/5 = 2/5`
Product of extremes = ` 3/4 xx 5/6 = 5/8`
` 3/5 ne 5/8`
Hence, the set of numbers are not in proportion.
