Med `=l_(1)+((N)/(2)-sumf_(1))/(f_(med))i`
Median class `=(N)/(2)th=(40)/(2)th=20th ` i.e., 25-50.
Here, `l_(1)=25,sumf_(1)=4,f_(med)=16,i=25`
Substituting these values
Med `=25+((20-4)/(16)xx25=25+((16)/(16)xx25)`
`=25+25=50`
Note: When `(N)/(2)=sumf_(2)`, the upper limit of the median class is the value of median. In this special case medium can be found by observation.
