A hose shoots water straight up to a height of 2.5 m. The opening end of the hose has an area of `0.75cm^(2)`. What is the speed of the water as it leaves the hose? How much water will come out in one minute?

Kinetic energy at bottom = Potential energy at the top
`(1)/(2)v^(2)=gh rArr v=sqrt(2gh)rArr v=sqrt(2xx9.8xx2.5)`
`=sqrt(5x9.8)=sqrt(49)=7m//s, v=7m//s or 700cm//s`.
The rate of flow of water = Av. So in one minute the volume of water heat that flows out
`=Avxx60=(0.75)xx700xx60=0.75xx42xx10^(3)`
`=3.15xx10^(4)cm^(3)="31.5 litre."`

A area of cross section of a large tank is 0.5m^2 . It has an opening near the bottom having area of cross section 1cm^2 . A load of 20 kg is applied on the water at the top. Find the velocity of the water coming out of the opening at the time when the height of water level is 50 cm above the bottom. Take g=10ms^-2

A cylindrical vessel of height 500mm has an orifice (small hole) at its bottom. The orifice is initially closed and water is filled in it up to height H. Now the top is completely sealed with a cap and the orifice at the bottom is opened. Some water comes out from the orifice and the water level in the vessel becomes steady with height of water column being 200mm. Find the fall in height(in mm) of water level due to opening of the orifice. [Take atmospheric pressure =1.0xx10^5N//m^2 , density of water=1000kg//m^3 and g=10m//s^2 . Neglect any effect of surface tension.]
