A solution is obtained by mixing 300 g of 25% solution and 400 g of 40% solutionby mass. Calculate the mass percentage of solute in the resulting solution.

A

`23%`

B

`12.5%`

C

`33.6%`

D

`50%`

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

Weight of solute in 300 g solution
`= (300xx25)/(100)=75 g`
Weight of solute in 400 g solution
`= (400xx40)/(100)=160 g`
`therefore` Total weight of solute in resultant solution
`= 75+160=235 g`
Total weight of solution `= 300+400=700 g`
Mass percentage of solute in resulting
solution `= (235)/(700)xx100=33.6 %`
