Are aldehydes isomeric with another functional group? Which out of them is more reactive?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Aldehydes are functional isomers with ketones. Aldehydes have one alkyl groups as in (R-CHO) whereas Ketones have two alkyl substituents on them (R-CO-R). Generally, more alkyl groups cause greater steric repulsions to incoming reagents making aldehydes more reactive.
