The relation `R={(2,3),(1,1),(1,3),(3,1)}` on the set `A=(1,2,3)` is______

A

Reflexive only

B

symmetric

C

transitive

D

Both b and c

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Given, A=(1,2,3) and R={(2,2),(1,1),(1,3),(3,1)}
Here, `3 in A` but (3,3) `cancel in` R. Hence R is not reflexive.
Also `(3,1)inR`, and `(1,3)inR` but `(3,3)cancelinR,R` is not transitive But `AA(x,y)inR`, there exist (y,x) `inR`. Hence R is symmetric. (3,1),(1,3)` inR` but (3,3) `in` R. Hence R isnot transitive.
