Write about the sulphates of alkaline earth metals.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The sulphates of the alkaline earth metals are all white solids and stable to heat.
(ii) `BeSO_(4)` and `MgSO_(4)` are readily soluble in water, the solubility decreases from `CaSO_(4)` to`BaSO_(4-)`
(iii) The greater hydration enthalpies of `Be^(2+)`and `Mg^(2+)` ions overcome the lattice enthalpy factor and therefore their sulphates are soluble in water.
Solubility order: `BeSO_(4) lt CaSO_(4) lt BaSO_(4)`
