Derive the relationship between the elevation of boiling point and molar mass of non-volatile solute.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The elevation of boiling point `=Delta T_(b)=T_(b) -T_(b) ^(@)`
`Delta T_(b)` is directly proportional to the concentration of the solute particles.
`Delta T_(b) prop m,` (m = molality)
`Delta T_(b) =k _(b)` m, where `k _(b)=` ebullioscopic constant
`Delta T_(b) = k _(b) (W_(B))/(M _(B))xx (1)/( W _(A))[ because m = ((W _(B))/(M _(B)))/(M _(A))]`
`W_(A)` = weight of solvent
`M _(B)= (k_(b))/(Delta T_(b)). (W_(B))/(W _(A)) W _(B)=` weight of solute
`M _(B)=` molar mass of solute
