The separation of different coloured constituents of chlorophyll is done by chromatography by M.S. Tswett. He achieved it by passing a petroleum ether solution of chlorophyll present in leaves through a column of `CaCO_(3)` firmly packed into a narrow glass tube. Different components of the pigments got separated and lands to form zones of different colours.
