Let the father's as be x years.
Daughter's age `=(x)/(3)` years.
Given that :
`x+(x)/(3)=56rArr(3x+x)/(3)=56`
`(4x)/(3)=56rArr4x=56xx3`
`x=(56xx3)/(4)rArrx=14xx3`
x=42
`:.` The age of daughter `=(1)/(3)xx42` years
=14 years
