Hydrochloric acid is used to clean the metal surface before the metal surface is subjected to galvanisation. Explain.

Galvanization is the process of coating zinc on the surfacr of iron by using electrolysis. Iron is associated with impurities like oxides and carbonates on its surface. All these impurities being basic in nature are removed by treating it with hydrochloric acid. This enables unifrom and firm coating of tine on the surface of iron.
