Find the energy possessed by a bird of 5 kg moving at a constant height of 10 m from the ground with a speed of 2 m `s^(-1)`. (Take `g = 10 m s^(-2)`)

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given, mass, m = 5 kg
Height from the ground, h = 10 m
Velocity, v = 2 m `s^(-1)`
`g = 10 m s^(-2)`
The bird possesses both potential energy (PE) and kinetic energy (KE).
`therefore` (PE) = mgh
`=5 xx 10 xx 10 = 500 J`
`KE = (1)/(2) mv^(2) = (1)/(2) xx 5 xx 2^(2) = 10 J`
`therefore` Energy possessed by the bird = 500 + 10 = 510 J
