The unit of force in SI system is newton...

The unit of force in SI system is newton (N) and in CGS system is dyne. One newton is equal to 1 kg m `s^(-2)` and 1 dyne is equal to 1 g cm `s^(-2)`. How many dynes make one newton?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Given that: 1 N = 1 kg m `s^(-2)`
1 dyne = 1 g cm `s^(-2)`
But 1 kg = 1000 g and 1 m = 100 cm
`therefore` 1 N = 1 kg m `s^(-2)` = (1 kg) (1 m `s^(-2)`)
`((1 kg)(1 m))/((1 s^(2))) = ((1000 g)(100 cm))/((1 s^(2))) = 10^(5) g cm s^(-2) = 10^(5)` dyne.
