H(3)BO(3) accepts hydroxide ion from ...

`H_(3)BO_(3)` accepts hydroxide ion from water shown below,
`H_(3) BO_(3) (aq) + H_(2) O(l) -> B(OH)_(4)^(-) + H^(+)`
Predict the nature of `H_(3) BO_(3)` using Lewis concept.

Boric acid is also called as hydrogen borate or orthoboric acid . It is a weak mono basic Lewis acid of borron and written as `B(OH)_(4)` . It accepts hydroxy `(OH^(-))` ion from water . It does not dissociate to give hydronium `H_(3) O^(+)` ion rather forms ion and this ions in turm give `H_(3) O^(+)` ions
`B(OH)_(3)+ H_(2)O = (B(OH)_(4))^(-) = H_(3) O^(+)`
Hence it is considered as weak acid.
