Chalcogens belongs to p-block. Give reason.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Chalcogens are ore forming elements. Most of the ores are oxides and sulphides, therefore oxygen, sulphur and other group 16 elements are called Chalcogens. In O, S, Se, Te and `P_(o)` last electron enters to p - orbital. Therefore Chalcogens belongs to p - block.
