To fish under water, viewing obliquely a fisherman standing on bank of a lake the man looks.

A

taller than what he actually is

B

shorter than whatt he actually is

C

the same height as he actually is

D

depends on the obliquity

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
C

As r is extended, O is seen as coming from O'. Therefore it appears to the fish as if the man is taller than what he is. The answer is (a) as in all cases, he looks taller. However it depends on `angle r` i.e., the obliqueness also. Therefore the answer is the person appears taller for the fish but how tall he looks also depends on the obliqueness.

In a village in Karnataka, people started cultivating crops all around a lake which was always filled with water. They added fertilizers to their field in order to enhance the yield. Soon they discovered that the water body was completely covered with green floating plants and fishes started dying in large numbers. Analyze the situation and give reasons for excessive growth of plants and death of fish in the lake.

A small fish, 0.4 m below the surface of a lake, is viewed through a simple converging lens of focal length 3m. The lens is kept at 0.2 m above the water surface such that the fish lies on the optical axis of the lens. Find the image of the fish seen by the observer. Refractive index of the water is 4//3 .

Answer the following questions: (d) Does the apparent depth of a tank of water change if viewed obliquely? If so, does the apparent depth increase or decrease?

A fish, looking up through the water sees the outside world contained in a circular horizon. If the refractive index of water is 4/3 and the fish is 12 cm below the surace of water, the radius of the circle in centimere is

A fish in water (refractive index n ) looks at a bird vertically above in air. It y is height of bird and x is depth of fish from the surface, then distance of bird as estimated by fish is
