Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The width of the fringe is `beta=(lambdaD)/(d)`
Given that `d=4lambda,beta=(lambdaD)/(4lambda)=(D)/(4)`.
Normally D is the order of metres (0.5 to 1m?) `beta` is very large .
The number of orders that can be accomodated is less than one for normal screen . No option given.

If white light is used in Young’s double-slit experiment,

In what way is diffraction from each slit related to interference pattern in a double slit experiment?

In a Young’s double-slit experiment, the slits are separated by 0.28 mm and the screen is placed 1.4 m away. The distance between the central bright fringe and the fourth bright fringe is measured to be 1.2 cm. Determine the wavelength of light used in the experiment.
