An aeroplane executes a horizontal loop at a speed of 720 kmph with its wings banked at `45^(@)`. What is the radius of the loop ?
Take `g=10ms^(-1)`.

A

`7.2` km

B

4 km

C

2 km

D

4.5 km

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

Here,
Speed of the aeroplane, `v=720` kmph
`v=720xx5/18 m s^(-1)= 200 m s^(-1)`
Angular of banking, `theta= 45^(@)`
Let R be the radius of the loop.
As `tan theta= (v^(2))/(Rg)`
`:.R=(v^(2))/(g tan theta) = ((200)^(2))/(10xx tan 45^(@))= (4xx10^(4))/(10xx1)`
`= 4000m = 4 `km
