A bar magnet is allowed to fall through a conductor, i.e., copper coil, and the magnetic flux linked with coil is changing, then eddy currents are induced in it, which according to Lenz's law will be produced in such a direction so as to oppose the change in magnetic flux and hence produce damping effect. Therefore, the net acceleration of magnet will be less than the acceleration due to gravity.
