A satellite is orbiting close to the earth and has a kinetic energy K. The minimum extra kinetic energy required by it to just overcome the gravitation pull of the earth is

A

`sqrt3K`

B

K

C

`2sqrt2K`

D

2K

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

(b): Kinetic energy = K
Potential energy = -2K
Total energy = -2K + K=-K
To overcome gravitational pull, total energy will have to be zero.
So required extra K.E. = K.
