Let the list price be Rs.x.
VAT (in Rs.) `=(18)/(100)x=(9)/(50)x`
Selling price including VAT (in Rs.)
`x+(9)/(50)x=(59)/(50)x`
`(59)/(50)x=944`

`therefore` VAT (in Rs.) `=(9)/(50)x=144`.
