CO and `H_(2)` react to give different products in the presence of different catalyst . It shows the selectivity of catalyst which means that it has ability to direct the reaction to form particular products excluding others .
For example
`CO(g) + H_(2)(g) overset(Cu)(to) HCHO(g)`
`CO(g) + 2H_(2)(g) overset(Cu//Zn - Cr_(2)O_(3))(to) CH_(3)OH(g)`
