State Raoult's law for a solution containing volatile components. Write two characteristics of the solution which obeys Raoult's law at all concentrations.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Raoult's Law: For the solution of volatile liquids the partial vapour pressure of each component in the solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction.
`P_(A)=P_(A)^(@)x_(A)`
where `P_(A)^(@)` is the vapour pressure of pure component A.
Ideal solution obey Raoult's law.
The enthalpy of mixing of the pure components to form the solution is zero `(Delta_(mix)H=0)` and the volu of mixing is also zero `(Delta_(mix)V=0)`
