Propanamine and N,N-dimethanamine contai...

Propanamine and N,N-dimethanamine contain the same number of carbon atoms ,even though propanamine has higer boiling point than N,N- dimethymethanamine .Why?

Text Solution

Due to presence of teo H-atoms on N - atoms of `1^@` amines , they undergo extencsive intermolecualar H- bonding while ` 3^(@)` amines due to absence of hydrogen atoms on the N-atom ,do not undergo hydrogen propanamine has higer boiling point than,N,N dimethylmethanamine .
