A brown ring wall from at the junction of the two layers ,indicting the presence of nitrate ion.The brown ring formed in the confirmatory test for the nitrate ion is due to the complex called nitros ferrous sulphate with the formula `[Fe(H_2O)_5(NO)]SO_4`

When concentrated sulphuric acid is added slowly to a solution of ferrous sulphate containing nitrate ion, a brown colour ring is formed. The compositionn of the ring is

When 'A' salt solution is added carefully to a saturated solution of Fe(II) sulphate acidified with dilute H_(2)SO_(4) a brown ring is formed at the junction of two liquids. Salt 'A' may be:

A red-brown metal X forms a salt XSO_(4) . When hydrogen sulphide gas is passed through an aqueous solution of XSO_(4) , then a black precipitate of XS is formed along with sulphuric acid solution. (a) What could the salt XSO_(4) be (b) What is the colour of salt XSO_(4) ? (c) Name the black precipitate XS. (d) By using the formula of the salt obtained in (a) above , write an equation of the reaction which takes place when hydrogen sulphide gas is passed through its aqueous solution. (e) What type of chemical reaction takes place in this case ?

A salt, when warmed with zinc powder and an NaOH solution, gives a gas that turns a filter paper soaked with an alkaline solution of K_(2)[HgI_(4)] brown. The salt responds to the brown ring test when acetic acid is used in place of sulphuric acid. The anion present in the salt is:

Assertion (A): When a piece of copper metal is added to dilute sulphuric acid, the solution turns blue. Reason (R): Copper reacts with dilute sulphuric acid to form blue copper (II) sulphate solution.

When compound (A) is treated with conc. H_(2)SO_(4) , a reddish brown colour gas (B) is evolved. To this solution, a solution of (C ) is added slowly from the side of the test tube, a blue ring is obtained at the junction of two layers due to formation of (D).
