Define osmotic pressure of a solution. How is the osmotic pressure orelated to the concentration of a solute in a solution ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Osmotic pressure : The minimum excess pressure that has to be applied on the solution to prevent the entry of the solvent into the solution through semipermeable membrane is called osmotic pressure.
`{:(pi=alphaC,[C to"Concentration of solution"]),(pi=CRT, ["R=Gas constant"]),(pi=(n_(B))/(V)TR,[T to "Temperature"]),(piV = n_(B) RT,[n_(B) to "mole of solute"]):}`
Hence, osmotic pressure pepends upon the concentration of solute in the solution.
