Coconut palm is monoecious while date palm is dioecious. Why are they called so?

In some flowering plants, both male and female flowers may be present on the same individual, (monoecious) or in separate indiviuals (dieocious). Some example of monoecious plant are cucurbits and coconuts and of dioecious plants are papaya and date palm.
