A national newspaper reported that a 50 metre high 'Sanitary landfill', the dumping site of city's garbage in one of the metro-cities crashed and caused heavy damage and disaster in and around the area. A couple of cars, two-wheelers and cattle were swept away in the nearby overflowing canal. Three persons including a young girl were crushed under the garbage and died.
(a) Write any two points that in your opinion could have caused this landfill crash.

Explanation

(a) Due to temperature elevations that occur because of unstable weather conditions. When landfills are left open or without cap there can be various harmful gases such as methane and `CO_(2)` that are produced excessively. When the level of these gases increases, they interfere with the temperatures of the environment .
(b) In metres, the amount of garbage has increased so much that there is dangerof seepage of toxic chemicals etc. which makes land barren and crashed.
(i) All the waste we generate can be categorised into three types :
(a) Biodegradable and
(b) Recycleable
(c) The non-biodegradable.
(ii) Harmful toxic chemicals should not be disposed in open, they make sure that sepratate dumping station for such harmful toxins are made.
(iii) What can be reused or recycled separated out.
(iv) Time to time checking for the increased amount of garbage.
(c) (i) Say no to plastics and leather.
(ii) Use of eco-friendly packaging and biodegradable items.
