When a blue litmus is dipped into a solution of hypochlorous acid, It turns red and then gets decolourised. Explain.

HOCl acts as an acid , `HOCl to H^+ + OC l^-` and thus turns blue litmus to red. It also work as bleaching agent, `HOCl to HCl + [O]` , and the red litmus is decolorized by nascent oxygen.
