Pseudo halides are anions having resemblance with halide ions. Group I metals can form salts with pseudo halides. Pseudo halogens can acts as ligands and form coordinate complexes. Their hydrides are weakly acidic and can be prepared in analogous way as halogen hydrides are prepared. Azides, cyanides, selonocyanides are example of pseuda halides.

Two metals X and Y form covalent halides. Both halides can act as Lewis acids and a catalyst in Friedel Crafts reaction. Halide of X is polymer in the solid state and a dimer in the vapour state which decomposes to monomer at 1200 K. However, halide of Y is a dimer in vapour state and becomes ionic in polar solvent. X and Y are respectively

Read the passage given below and answer the following questions: Aldehydes, ketones and carboxylic acids are few of the major classes of organic compounds containing carbonyl group. Aldehydes are prepared by dehydrogenation or controlled oxidation of primary alcohols and controlled or selective reduction of acyl halides. Ketones are prepared by oxidation of secondary alcohols and hydration of alkynes. Carboxylic acids are prepared by the oxidation of primary alcohols, aldehydes and alkenes by hydrolysis of nitriles and by treatment of Grignard reagents with carbon dioxide. Name the main compounds A and B formed in the following reaction: CH_3CN underset((ii) H_2O^(+) ) overset( (i) CH_3MgBr) to A overset( Zn( Hg) //conc. HCl) to B
