Measure of two quantites along with the ...

Measure of two quantites along with the precision of respective measuring instrument is `A = 2.5 ms^(-1) +- 0.5 ms^(-1)`
`B = 0.10 s +- 0.01s` The value of AB will be

A

`(0.25pm 0.08)m`

B

`(0.25pm 0.5)m`

C

`(0.25pm 0.05)m`

D

`(0.25pm 0.135)m`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Given, `A= 2.5 ms^(-1) pm 0.5 ms^(-1)`
`B= 0.10s pm 0.01s`
Let X=AB
`=2.5xx0.10=0.25m`
Relative error `(triangleX)/(X)=(triangleA)/(A)+(triangleB)/(B)`
`=(0.5)/(2.5)+(0.01)/(0.10)`
`=0.2 +0.1=0.3`
`triangleX= 0.3xx X`
`=0.3xx0.25m= 0.075m`
`=0.08m` (2 significant figures)
`X=(0.25 pm 0.08)m`.
