During a total solar ecilpse the moon almost entirely covers the sphere of the sun. Write the relation between the distances and sizes of the sun and moon.

From the figure, we find that
Radius of the sun `=R_(s)`
Diameter of the sun `2 R_(s)= D_(s)`
Distance of the sun from earth `R_(se)`
Radius of the moon `=R_(m)`
Diameter of the moon `=2R_(m)= D_(m)`
Distance of the moon from earth `=R_(me)`
Using property of similar triangles we can write the following :
`(D_s)/(D_m)=(R_s)/(R_me)`
or `(R_s)/(R_m)=(R_se)/(R_me)`.

During a total solar eclipse, the disc of the moon almost completely covers the disc of the sun. If the distance of the Sun from the earth= 1.496xx10^(11) m, diameter of the Sun 1.393xx10^(8) m, then calculate the diameter of the moon.

It is a well known fact that during a total solar eclipes the disc of the moon almost completely covers the disc of the sun. From this fact and from the information you can gather from Solved Examples 3 and 4 on page 1//44, determine the approximate diameter of the moon.

The distance between the sun and the Earth is 1.496xx10^(8) km and distance between the Earth and the Moon is 3.84xx10^(8)m . During solar eclipse the Moon comes in between the Earth and the sun. What is the distance between the Moon and the sun at that particlar time?

During the phenomenon of aphelion, the approximate distance between the earth and the sun is:
