Given the components of an electric fiel...

Given the components of an electric field as `E_x=alphax`,`E_y=0` and `E_z=0`, where `alpha` is a dimensional constant. Calculate the flux through each face of the cube of side a, as shown in the figure.

Text Solution

The electric field is along X-axis, thus the electric flux through all the surfaces except the faces ABCD and face EFGH as shown in the figure will be zero.

Magnitude of electric field at the face EFGH of the cube will be zero as x =0
Magnitude of electric field at the face ABCD of the cube is given by
`E=alphax=alpha//a`
Total electric flux through the cube is given by :
`phi=EA cos 0^@ =alphaaxx(a)^2 xx(+1)=+alphaa^3 Nm^2C^(-1)` .
