Does in charging the mass of a body change?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

You, though very small, but there is change in mass in charging process, Mass of electron in `9.1 xx 10^(-31)`kg. Object that acquire negative charge gains a little mass due to addition of electrons in it and the mass of the one that acquires positive charge decreases due to lost electrons. The magnitude of change in mass of both the objects is same. because the number of electrons lost by one is equal to the number of electrons gained by the other. Change in mass can be calculated by multiplying the number of electrons gained or lost with the mass of one electron.
