A particle of mass m and charge q is released from rest in uniform electric field of intensity E. Calculate the kinetic energy it attains after moving a distance x between the plates.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Force experienced by charge inside electric field is F=qE
Since electron is negatively charged particle , so it experiences force eE opposite to the direction of electric field . Work energy theorem can be used to calculate speed of electron.
Work done by electric force = Change in kinetic energy
`eEx=1/2mv^2 rArr v=sqrt((2eEx)/m)`
