A system has two charges `q_(A)= +2.5xx10^(-7)C and q_(B)= -2.5xx10^(-7)C` located at point A: (0,0,-15 cm)and B: (0,0,+15 cm)`, respectively. What are the total charge and electric dipole moment of the system?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Total charge of the system is zero.
The distance between the charges is equal to 30 cm. The dipole moment can be calculated by multiplying the charge magnitude with the distance between the charges: p = ql = `2.5 xx 10^(-7)xx 0.3 = 7.5 xx 10^(-8)` C m
The direction of the electric dipole moment is from the negative charge towards the positive charge. So, the electric dipole moment is along the negative Z-axis.
