A metallic partical having no net charge...

A metallic partical having no net charge is placed near a finite metal plate carrying a positive charge. The electric force on the particale will be

A

towards the plate

B

away from the plate

C

parallel to the plate

D

zero

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Metal plate with positive charge will induce negative charge on metal particle placed near it and positive charge on the farther side of particle. Attraction on opposite charge will be more due to lesser distance from the charged plate. Hence, the particle will be attracted towards the plate.
